The much expected Big Budget malayalam classic Aakashagopuram started its run in all major centers in
India. The film made a nation wise release which is a first experience for a malayalam film.
The story:(on my view... May be different from the director's)
The film can be interpreted in many ways. One common man can interpret this as a real life story of an
architect and his affections. But the other can interpret the same to human psychology, where a middle aged
man is fearing the younger generation to overtake him.
Albert Samson is a master builder, he used to build tall buildings for GOD (churches).Once in such an
opening ceremony of one of his buildings, he is making a decission to start constructing buildings for humans.
There can be reasons why he is changing his mind. May be the unfortunate incidents took place in his life,
even after serving GODS, changes his mind. There he started his journey. He stood at the top of the building ,
places his flowers at the top. With no fear he looks the people standing down from a tremendous height.
But what happened to Albert after 10 years? He became a master builder. He became famous. But he started
fearing the younger generation. He is sure one day the younger generation will knock his door, and over takes
him. They will push him out from their way, similar to what he did to his master (Bharat Gopi).
Every night he thinks of his Aakasha Gopuram. He wants to constuct the tallest buiding of his own. He wants
the brilliant architect, Alex, not to leave his company and start his individual firm. He is passionating
Alex's fiancee catherine only because of this reason.
At this stage in his life, on a rainy day, Hilda knocks his door. he couldn't rememeber Hilda, but she
says, she know him well. She is saying, she saw him first on the opening ceremony of the church, that happened
10 years before. At that time she was small. According to her words, Albert samson has promised her, after 10
years he will take her to his kingdom, and make her a princess. She was waiting for this from then, and that
didnt happen even after 10 years. Albert could nt remember her. that makes her upset and while she decides
return, Albert feels he needs her in her life and calls her back to his life.
That is the second birth of Alber Samson. The film ends with a thrilling climax, which tells whether Albert
can place his flowers again in the tallest building, his AakashaGopuram. The younger generation challenges
him. But that will happen.
Are you curious to know what happens? Yes , see your Aakshagopuram
The question from Alex: " so that means he fears me"
Hilda: fear?? look he is "ALBERT SAMSON"
The music from John Altman (Titanic Music Director) at the end thrills each and every person. Lal in gentle
dress, holds flowers on his hands walks towards his Aakashagopuram,. with his head held up...
The symbolic Concept:
Now its time to think who is Hilda? What is Aakashaopuram?
AakashaGopuram is the desire, the tallest, the strongest desire Albert or every human is having. And Hilda
is the strong will power or confidence he has. Before 10 years Albert is making a decission that he will
become a master bulder in 10 years.
Hilda's character can be imaginary. The symbolic representation of the confidence coming back to Albert's
life after 10 years.
Now relook at the film and enjoy every frames.
Casting:
Mohanlal as Albert Samson, cannot be compared with any other actor to do this role. The styles and
Mannerism makes a man who knows lal personally wonder what really happened to this man.It seems Some invisible
powers drives him throuh the role, where you forget him as lalettan, but a man with a strong will power and
affection towards his work, ALBERT SAMSON.
Enjoy Aakashagopuram. This film can be the first of this kind in malayalam and can change the usual story
lines of this Induatry. Welcome Malayalam cinema to its new world. Like Hilda coming to Albert Samson's life,
AakashaGopuram is coming to Malayalam cinema industry to give her a second birth.
Rating : 9.5/10
Cheers!!!
